I know most moms that have teenagers around the age of 13 to 20ish would agree with me.
But, to save you all the hassle I put together a few ideas to successfully decorate or turn a room from a boy’s into a young man’s.
One thing that’ll work to your advantage is that most men like simplicity so you won’t need a whole bunch of decorations and fancy looking things in there. Out of anything, trophies, souvenirs and things that have a special value can be added. Anything else, is not needed.
This room has to be fashionable and stylish to the last detail. Us girls have a natural instinct for decoration and making even the smallest of spaces feel welcoming and unique. We like to show off our personality by making our space our OWN.
Sure most of us like to keep lots of things from make-up to hair products, nail polish and all kinds of girly things but that’s what make us who we are: Ladies.
In order to make a statement for both a guy’s and a lady’s room no matter how big or small the room is:
1. I always remind my fellow readers to set a budget!
Before beginning any project I would definitely list all of my costs and add up all of the things I need and the ones I may want as well, that way I have an idea of an estimated cost because things can get a little out of hand and get kind of pricey.
So unless you’re not really concerned about the “money” part, I’d really encourage you to consider making a list with possible prices, whether you like it on paper or a note on your phone or tablet, whatever works for you is great!
2.Find out what kind of style and colors they like.
Whether its something modern, old-school, colorful and funky or just plain with light colors , the theme of the room wanted plays a big role in what kind of furniture is going to be used and the colors & patterns as well.
Select colors that go well with all the pieces of furniture planned out. For example, you don’t want half of a room full with dark and loud colors while the other half has lighter tones of colors.
It may sound ridiculous but trust me, it happens. A lot of people get carried away decorating to their liking when at the end they come to realize all the weird mistakes they did.
It doesn’t have to come out perfect but you need to keep a very close eye on EVERY little detail.
3. Time to paint walls and/or place wallpapers.
Now that you have your colors and/or patterns selected it’s time to start painting. I will remind you to be careful and make sure all the colors compliment one another and keep in mind all possible furniture pieces that are going to be used as well.
4. Now you can arrange furniture any way you like.
At this point you can start adding pieces of furniture. Just don’t add too many. There is such thing as a cluttered room when there is too many objects (you don’t want that).
You want to be able to walk around and access the bed, dresser, etc. comfortably.
5. It’s time to decorate everywhere (THE FUN PART).
Decorating is always the best part because you get to customize your space how YOU like. So go ahead and put up your pictures, trophies, souvenirs or whatever it is that shows off your personality, but again, make sure you don’t just overload a single area.
You don’t want too much on a wall or table; instead hang up 2 or 3 photos and/or wall sticker with a quote or whatever it is you like. As long as you know it looks good where it is, then its okay. Don’t try to add more objects just because it looks “too plain”.
Sometimes the less the better (:
