Affordable Ideas to Decorate a Bedroom for a Young Person (Guy and Lady)

imageDecorating a room for a young guy can be a little tricky. Sometimes it can become stressful since this is the age when a guy oftentimes can’t seem to be satisfied with almost anything.

I know most moms that have teenagers around the age of 13 to 20ish would agree with me.
But, to save you all the hassle I put together a few ideas to successfully decorate or turn a room from a boy’s into a young man’s.

One thing that’ll work to your advantage is that most men like simplicity so you won’t need a whole bunch of decorations and fancy looking things in there. Out of anything, trophies, souvenirs and things that have a special value can be added. Anything else, is not needed.

imageOn the other hand, when it comes to a lady’s room it’s a whole different story.

This room has to be fashionable and stylish to the last detail. Us girls have a natural instinct for decoration and making even the smallest of spaces feel welcoming and unique. We like to show off our personality by making our space our OWN.

Sure most of us like to keep lots of things from make-up to hair products, nail polish and all kinds of girly things but that’s what make us who we are: Ladies.

In order to make a statement for both a guy’s and a lady’s room no matter how big or small the room is:

1. I always remind my fellow readers to set a budget!

Calculator with word "budget" on display

Before beginning any project I would definitely list all of my costs and add up all of the things I need and the ones I may want as well, that way I have an idea of an estimated cost because things can get a little out of hand and get kind of pricey.

So unless you’re not really concerned about the “money” part, I’d really encourage you to consider making a list with possible prices, whether you like it on paper or a note on your phone or tablet, whatever works for you is great!

2.Find out what kind of style and colors they like.

Whether its something modern, old-school,  colorful and funky or just plain with light colors , the theme of the room wanted plays a big role in what kind of furniture is going to be used and the colors & patterns as well.

Select colors that go well with all the pieces of furniture planned out. For example, you don’t want half of a room full with dark and loud colors while the other half has lighter tones of colors.

It may sound ridiculous but trust me, it happens. A lot of people get carried away decorating to their liking when at the end they come to realize all the weird mistakes they did.

It doesn’t have to come out perfect but you need to keep a very close eye on EVERY little detail.

3. Time to paint walls and/or place wallpapers.

Now that you have your colors and/or patterns selected it’s time to start painting. I will remind you to be careful and make sure all the colors compliment one another and keep in mind all possible furniture pieces that are going to be used as well.

4. Now you can arrange furniture any way you like.

At this point you can start adding pieces of furniture. Just don’t add too many. There is such thing as a cluttered room when there is too many objects (you don’t want that).

You want to be able to walk around and access the bed, dresser, etc. comfortably.

5. It’s time to decorate everywhere (THE FUN PART).

Decorating is always the best part because you get to customize your space how YOU like. So go ahead and put up your pictures, trophies, souvenirs or whatever it is that shows off your personality, but again, make sure you don’t just overload a single area.

You don’t want too much on a wall or table; instead hang up 2 or 3 photos and/or wall sticker with a quote or whatever it is you like. As long as you know it looks good where it is, then its okay. Don’t try to add more objects just because it looks “too plain”.

Sometimes the less the better (:

How to Decorate a Living Room – 6 Easy and Affordable Steps!

Traditional-Living-Room-Ideas-with-Stone-FireplaceHere I’m going to cover the basics on decorating a decent living room. First of all, there are many ways to decorate a room; it all depends on a person’s taste, age, background, among many other things.

A person’s living room is not just any room. It’s a room where you welcome guests to sit down and have a  conversation with, it’s a room where you relax, admire your surroundings and maybe read a book or work on your laptop.

Some people are lucky enough to have more than one sitting room; a family room, game room, and/or living room, etc.

Regardless of the situation, when it comes to decorating a “sitting” room,

Here’s a few things to keep in mind:

1. Set a Budget!

This is very important. Remember to sit down set a budget and make sure you don’t go over that budget. Make a list of all the things you NEED – like a new piece of furniture you need to replace, and then all the things you WANT – like accessories and things like that.

       2. Who is going to use the room.

Some people live by themselves with their significant other or have small children or dogs and cats or birds. Whatever the case may be, you need to keep in mind the people and/or pets you live with the whole time to make your space more efficient and functional.

3. What is the room going to be used for MOST.

It’s important to know ahead what is going to be main purpose for the room since not everyone has the same idea of a sitting room. Some people may use it just for watching TV and playing video games, while others just like to read or work out. Whatever you like to use your room for, there’s definitely no right or wrong . As long as you know what you want it to be for.

        4. Colors, shades and patterns.

You need to decide what kind of colors you want to go for before starting out. Whether you want to use neutral, light, dark, loud colors, its all up to what your style is.

        5. Lightning.

If you’re going to be using this room during the day and you happen to have lots of windows around, you may want to work with direct sunlight to position objects in a way that is useful all around the room.

        6. Pay extra attention to detail.

When arranging furniture, you have to be very careful.

You definitely don’t want to squeeze too many objects into a small space, this will only make the overall effect look cluttered and the room look smaller.

Also, you don’t want to use a single pattern too much in the same room because it makes the room look and feel poorly designed (Image 1).

Whereas to a much better design, there is a cleaner look and the room feels and looks well decorated (Image 2).
